Best German Chocolate Cake Recipe
What’s the best German chocolate cake recipe? There are many out there but this by far is one of my favorites.
It’s rich chocolaty and very simple to make.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup German sweet chocolate
- 4 egg yolks
- 4 egg whites
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
German Chocolate Cake Recipe Baking Steps:
- Preheat your oven to 200 degrees.
- In a small saucepan add the half cup of water and German chocolate and cook until the chocolate is completely melted.
- In a large bowl combine your butter and sugar and cream them together until the mixture is fluffy and light. Add your melted chocolate, vanilla and egg yolks, all the dry ingredients and the buttermilk and incorporate fully. Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form in it and fold this into the batter.
- Pour the mixture equally into three round 8 inch non-stick cake pans lightly coated with baking spray.
- Bake for 30 minutes or until your cake passes the “toothpick test”.
- Cool the cakes completely then frost each layer of cake with a delicious coconut and pecan frosting to complete this cake.
