Here’s one of my favorite black forest cake recipes. There’s nothing like a slice of this delicious German pastry to make your taste buds tingle. Chocolate, cherries and whipped cream? Heaven!
Ingredients:

- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 eggs
Black Forest Cake Baking Steps:
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
- Combine your flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, sugar salt, beaten eggs, milk oil and vanilla and mix thoroughly.
- Pour the batter equally into two round 9 inch non-stick baking pans and bake for 35 minutes or until your cakes pass the “toothpick test”
- Cool the cakes completely before adding the toppings.
Cake Topping Ingredients:
- 2 cans pitted sour cherries (20 ounces)
- 3 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1/3 cup confectioners' sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Cake Topping Instructions:
- Drain your cherries and save half a cup of the cherry juice to use as the base for your toppings.
- Add the half cup of juice, cherries, sugar, vanilla and cornstarch to a small saucepan and cook over a low heat until the mixture thickens. Remove the pan from the fire and allow the mixture to cool completely before use.
- In a medium bowl, combine your whipping cream and confectioner's sugar and beat thoroughly until stiff peaks form.
